You're not back to square one, you're a layer deeper
Do you ever have this? You think: "No, not again..."
You thought you had processed it. Finished it. Let it go. And suddenly you're right back in the thick of it.
Same theme. Same emotions.
And then the thought hits you: "Why haven't I gotten over this yet?"
What I often see—certainly with myself and the people I work with—is that therapy and healing rarely follow a straight line.
Unfortunately, it's not: problem → solution → done.
It never goes from A to B to C, and back again.
That might work for a crashed computer: just unplug it, restart it, and everything works again.
But we humans are more complex (thankfully π).
Emotional healing moves in spirals.
I often compare it to a snail's shell: spiraling, ever deeper inward and upward.
You encounter themes more often, quicker.
But each time at a different, deeper level.
What was once too big, or too painful, will eventually be addressed – only when the time is right and when you are ready.
And yes, that sometimes feels like a setback.
But usually, it's progress.
Because only then are you ready to take the next step.
And yes, that sometimes feels like a setback.
But usually, it's progress.
The question isn't: "Why am I here again?"
But: "What do I see now that I couldn't see then?"
And: "How can I react differently now than I did then?"
This way, you come a little closer to yourself each time.
Step by step.
