Your Body Renews, But Your Patterns Stay the Same

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.

Do you realise how quickly your body regenerates?
Your body is constantly renewing itself—a natural process known as body regeneration.

Cells die. Cells renew. Constantly.

The lining of your gut replaces itself within days.
Your skin renews roughly every month.
Red blood cells live about four months before being replaced.
Even your liver has the remarkable ability to regrow after damage.

Over the course of a year, a large part of your body has been rebuilt.
Fresh. New.

And yet…

the story you carry about yourself often stays the same.

“I have a weak immune system.”
“My body always reacts like this.”
“I’ve been like this my whole life.”

From a biological perspective, this is not so strange.

Not all cells renew at the same pace.
Neurons in the brain, for example, can last a lifetime.

But more importantly: the connections between those neurons—your neural pathways—become stronger the more they are used.

What you think, feel, and repeat… becomes wired.

Your nervous system learns patterns of safety, stress, and response.
Your body doesn’t just regenerate—it also remembers.

This is why a symptom can persist,
even in a body that is physically renewing itself.

Chronic tension, for example, is often not a structural issue,
but a repeated signal the body has learned to hold.

Stress responses can become automatic,
even when the original trigger is no longer there.

Interesting, isn’t it?

And this is what keeps catching my attention, time after time.

Because just as patterns can be reinforced,
they can also be softened.

This is where neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to change—comes in.

You can teach your body new signals of safety.
New responses. New patterns.

Not instantly.
But gradually, through awareness and repetition.

So while your body is already renewing itself…

the question becomes:

What are you teaching yourself, and your body, to remember?
